Some invoice lines come straight from line items you entered β and some are generated by the system: move charges calculated from a rate table or tariff, travel charges for shop-to-origin and destination-to-shop, packing materials, packing labor, or whole sections consolidated into one line. The new Line Item Mapping tab under Settings β General lets you decide, once, which Category and Line Item each of those sections carries when it lands on an invoice. Previously, generated rows like transportation and packing materials arrived on the invoice with the category and line item blank β now they populate from your mapping.
Map each section to its category and line item, and every invoice you create β from an estimate, a work order, or the Income tab β fills its generated rows with the right classification automatically. And because line items tie to your product/service mapping, invoices sync to QuickBooks with the correct product or service on every line.
This guide follows one worked example end to end: a category called Move Charges, a line item called Additional Labour, and a product/service called Labor β so you can see each piece click into place, all the way to the finished invoice.
1) Create the Category under Settings β General β Categories β give it a title, map it to its service type(s), and choose the pricing section it belongs to. Our example: Move Charges, with Transportation Labor as its pricing section.

General (1) β Categories (2): each category with its service types and pricing section
2) Create your Product/Services on the Product/Service tab β these are the accounting-level names your invoices and QuickBooks will use. Our example: Labor.

General (1) β Product/Service (2): create the product/services your business bills under
3) Create the Line Item on the Line Items tab and open it to edit: select its Charge Category and β right on the line item β its Product/Service Mapping. Our example: Additional Labour, under the Move Charges category, mapped to the Labor product/service.

General (1) β Line Items (2): line items with their categories and product/services

Edit Charge Line Item: Additional Labour under Charge Category Move Charges, with Product/Service Mapping set to Labor
4) Now open Settings β General β Line Item Mapping. Each pricing section is listed with its mapped Category and Line Item, and a Used For description of exactly when that mapping applies.

The Line Item Mapping tab (1): each pricing section with its Category and Line Item (2), and when it's used
5) Select a section and click Edit to assign the category and line item you created β for the Move Charges section, that's Move Charges and Additional Labour. Work through every section your pricing uses β move charges, travel charges, additional charges, packing materials (Container, and Pack & Unpack), packing labor, and the rest.

Select a section (1) and click Edit (2) to map its Category and Line Item
6) Review your consolidation preferences under Settings β Invoices β General β Consolidate Packing Materials as One Line Item and Consolidate Line Items by Section. Consolidated lines use the section's mapping; unconsolidated grids map their individual rows.

The two consolidation toggles (1) under Settings β Invoices β General
7) If you sync to QuickBooks, go to Settings β Integrations β QuickBooks β Line Item Mapping. Every line item created in your General settings is listed there β with the product/service it carries. Our Additional Labour line item shows its Labor mapping, ready for the sync.

Integrations (1) β QuickBooks (2) β Line Item Mapping (3): each Movegistics line item mapped to its Product/Service
8) Create an invoice as usual β from the estimate, the work order, or the Income tab. The generated move charge row arrives fully aligned: Category Move Charges, Line Item Additional Labour, Product/Service Labor β and that's exactly what syncs to QuickBooks.

The worked example on the invoice: Move Charges β Additional Labour β Labor, aligned end to end
9) The rest of the invoice follows the same rule β every generated row carries its mapped category and line item, while line items you entered explicitly keep their own.

Invoice rows carrying the mapped Category and Line Item (1) β and, where the line item is tied to one, the Product/Service (2)
10) With Consolidate Line Items by Section on, an invoice created from the Income tab combines each section's charges β estimated, travel, and added lines together β into a single line carrying that section's mapped category and line item, with sales-tax flags carried along.

Line Item Mapping is live now under Settings β General. Spend a few minutes mapping your sections, and every invoice after β in Movegistics and in QuickBooks β classifies itself. Built straight from customer feedback; keep it coming.
