Sales tax now follows the move. You can maintain a city-by-city sales tax list under Settings β General β Sales Tax, and Movegistics applies the right rate automatically from the work request's origin address: an origin in Chicago picks up Chicago's 10.25%, an origin in Phoenix picks up 8.6%. When the origin city isn't in your list, the system falls back to your location's sales tax percentage β so every move gets a rate, and moves from configured cities get the precise one. The rate flows through Move Pricing, Work Order Pricing, Income, and Invoices.
β¨ What's New
- City-level Sales Tax list β a new Sales Tax tab under Settings β General holds one entry per city: City Name, Tax Name, Amount (%), and Description.
- Bulk import β bring in your whole tax table at once by clicking Import and uploading an Excel sheet of city names and tax amounts, or add cities one at a time with the + icon.
- Origin-address matching β when a work request's origin city matches a configured city, that percentage is applied automatically.
- Smart fallback β origins outside your configured cities use the location-level Sales Tax percentage (Settings β Locations), exactly as before.
- Applied everywhere sales tax appears β Move Pricing, Work Order Pricing, Income, and Invoices all pick up the same origin-based rate.
π₯ Who This Is For
- Moving companies serving multiple cities β where the tax rate genuinely differs by pickup location and one flat location rate doesn't fit every job.
- Billing and back-office teams β who no longer correct tax percentages by hand on pricing screens and invoices.
- Owners and admins β who set up the tax table once β or import it β and let every new work request tax itself correctly.
βοΈ How to Configure
- Go to Settings β General and open the new Sales Tax tab. Each row is a city with its tax name, percentage, and description. Use Import to bulk-upload your city/tax Excel sheet.

- Or click the + icon to add a single city: City Name, Tax Name, Amount (%), and Description, then Save.

- Your fallback rate lives where it always has: Settings β Locations β Edit Location β Sales Tax (%). This applies whenever the origin city isn't in your Sales Tax list.

- From then on, when a work request's origin address is in a configured city β Chicago in this example β that city's percentage is applied to the job automatically.

- The matched rate shows up pre-filled across Move Pricingβ¦

- β¦Work Order Pricingβ¦

- β¦and Invoices (and the Income section), keeping the same origin-based rate end to end.

π Good to Know
- Percentage only. Sales tax is calculated as a percentage β flat-rate taxes aren't part of this list.
- Match is by origin city. The origin address's city name is matched against your Sales Tax list, so keep city names consistent between your addresses and the tax table.
- The fallback keeps you covered. Any origin outside your configured cities simply uses the location's sales tax percentage β no job goes untaxed by accident.
π Available Now
Origin-based sales tax is live under Settings β General β Sales Tax. Import your city table or add the cities you serve, and every new work request will carry the right rate from pricing through invoice.
